| The camera deleted the first few "steps" - but - as you know if you've been following Jan's "Painting in Progress" she begins her painting with a drawing done to size on transfer paper. She then blocks in the background. She transfers her drawing to the surface and blocks in the cats in her gray/purple gesso. She then transfers the drawing. |

| Here she has "drawn" out the cubs haircoat with sepia colored paint. Paying attention to how the hair lies, which direction it goes and how it "breaks" over muscles. |

| Jan is applying a thin brown wash in sections, then she is rubbing it with a cloth to create a softness to the underpainting. |
