Guest Artist:

Sculptor John Lewton

John Lewton is a talented, self-taught sculptor who is known for his ability to place movement in the pieces he sculpts.

John may have derived his gift of sculpture from his great uncle Roy E. King, a well-known sculptor/artist whose works are displayed in the Smithsonian.

As a young adult, John resided in Alaska. There he was able to observe up close the movements and anatomy of the wild sheep and goats of which he became so fond. These animals became the subjects of his first sculptures.

In 1985 John settled in Montana and has resided there ever since. For over 20 years John has had a very successful taxidermy businass in Montana. Being a full time taxidermist required paying attention to detail, giving him the ability to visualize the animal in action and eventually portray this in his sculptures.

He has traveled extensively to observe the subjects he sculpts. His travel destinations include some of the most remote areas of Asia, many trips to Russia, and 19 safaris in Africa.

John has been sculpting now for over 20 years. In his career as a sculptor John has participated in only one competition, back in 1995, for the Wild Sheep Foundation, where he won the prestigious award Artist of the Year.

John will be displaying with Jan and James at the following exhibitions:
